A letter home... Dear Mother, now Afghan is over, And my six - TopicsExpress

A letter home... Dear Mother, now Afghan is over, And my six month tour is through, But Mother, there is something, I need to ask of you. I have a mate, a real good mate, He has nowhere to go you see, And so, Mother, I would really like to, Bring him home with me, Dear Son, I really dont mind, If your mate comes home with you, I am happy for him to stay with us, Perhaps for a week or two. Dear Mother, there is something else, Something else that you must know, Now please dont be alarmed, But my mate he lost an arm. Dear Son, please do not be afraid, To bring your mate home with you, I am happy for him to stay with us, Perhaps for a day or two. Dear Mother, he is not just a mate, He is more like a brother too, That is why I want him home with us, So he can be like a son to you. Before you give your answer, Mother, I really dont want to beg, But my mate was recently wounded, And he also lost his leg. Dear Son, it hurts me to have to say, But my answer must be no, For I really have no time to care, For your mate thats injured so. Some weeks went by, a letter came, It said her Son had died, And when she read the cause of death, It said it was suicide. A few days later when the coffin came, Draped in the Union flag, She saw her Son lying there, Without an arm and leg. Dave Lilburn
