A letter to a friend: We spoke last night. I listened as hard - TopicsExpress

A letter to a friend: We spoke last night. I listened as hard as I could through your piercing tears, but it was painful. The devastation of you being alone at that time, while returning to love lost, failed dreams and one too many tragedies for one human soul, swept me into an unbearable, emotional storm. When we hung up, I had a moment to peek my head above the clouds, and I got very clear on why I love you and respect you. Your life experiences have cultivated your wisdom with understanding how to create meaning from broken dreams, a death of a child, and deep emotional betrayal from your parents. It is this wisdom that reminded me that life cant be about AVOIDING pain, failure, disappointment, and devastating heartbreak. Without this, what would we know about gratitude? Life is about PREPARING ourselves to overcome the inevitable challenges in order to create the lives we desire. You told me years ago that mistakes should NEVER equate shame, but that mistakes are the currency for a greater understanding of ourselves and others. Thats a mantra I have shared with my children and other friends because its been proven through your experiences. Your life experiences have been a gift and a blessing, not just for you but to others. Your life is a masterful tapestry I have chosen to hang on a wall inside my most secret wells of strength, as a reminder of how a courageous person lives. Thank you for sharing your life, your masterpiece with me. I am grateful for you, and I love you. J
