A lifelong aficionado of Bachs cantatas, I have just found a new gem I was previously unfamiliar with - the opening Chorus from BWV 8 - Liebster Gott, wenn werd ich sterben (Dear God, when will I die?). What a beautiful piece, and it causes me once more to thank the eternal memory of my grandmother Jean Potter Haas, who took me to the annual Bach festival in Bethlehem, PA each year from the time I was about seven years of age through my college years. Each year I got to hear the Mass in B Minor in addition to numerous cantatas and instrumental works.
