A longtime SIDS researcher Dr. Beckwith addresses the issue of SIDS vs. suffocation. One of the findings in SIDS babies is "little pinpoint hemorrhages (petachiae) found in the chest organs of 87% of the cases". These hemorrhages result from the INSTANTANEOUS and complete closure of the upper respiratory tract at the end of a breath. Dr. Beckwith explains, "If I were to go out and attempt to strangle someone or put a plastic bag over their head, it would be almost impossible to produce the hemorrhages. The findings differ in SIDS and suffocations, with 95% confidence levels". SIDS is NOT suffocation! SIDS requires research to understand why our babies little bodies just stop working so quickly and so quietly.
