A lot of people are preaching nonviolence right now. And I agree. - TopicsExpress

A lot of people are preaching nonviolence right now. And I agree. You shouldnt burn buildings down or hurt people. But I cant help but feel extremely frustrated at the moral high ground some people think theyre taking. Black people in America, starting with African slaves, had their identity destroyed, families torn apart, and humanity taken from them. We talk about things getting better (Hey, look the lynchings stopped!) but not even 50 years ago two of the greatest black leaders to walk in this nation were assassinated. Even just 50 years ago there was a real struggle for basic civil rights in this country, which continues to this day. Fast forward to the present, and a status quo exists in this country that unfairly polices black communities. Black people still face humiliation and violence at levels that exceeds just about every other community. So when you have this history of suffering aggression, violence, humiliation, and dehumanization, from where the hell do you derive the audacity to tell a people that they can not express their rage? The reaction to the Ferguson no-indictment is a reaction to a history of injustice, and Michael Brown is the name that carries it, whether or not the case itself could have led to a guilty verdict.
