A lot of people ask me questions like when did you start liking Stannis?. Honestly, for me it was this scene from Season 2 that sealed the deal. At the time I watched it, I hadnt read the books yet, and I was still kind of on the fence about Stannis (I was a Robb fan at the time, for all the good it did me). Here though, in addition to the badassery, tenacity, and unintentional humor everyone loves from Stannis, I saw a quality no other candidate for the throne had, and is still one of my favorite things about Stannis that I dont hear people talk about too much - he judges on merit above all else. He doesnt give a shit that Davos is lower born than the men who mock him, he knows that hes better than any of them and thats why he gives him command and makes him hand of the king. Compared to the cockiness based solely on family name of The Lannisters and Dany, this really stood out to me and I found myself wanting nothing more than Stannis crushing the Lannisters like insects in Blackwater...you can imagine my subsequent disappointment. Stannis being dragged away by his men at the end of Blackwater was actually as much of not more of a table flip moment for me than Neds death, and from there I knew I had to really get seriously and read the books. It is funny though that with all the hate the shows portrayal of Stannis gets (from myself included), they did at one point get him very right, and that one point made a huge difference in my opinion of him. -Matt
