A lot of times TS comes along with several co-occuring diseases. ADD, OCD, ADHD, Bi Polar are a few. Huddy has a couple of these co-occuring diseases, the main being bi polar. I have it down to a science, he works on 4 hour shifts meaning, if he is really happy or excited for 4 hours then get ready for the down. Normally this happens on rides home from an exciting day, for instance if we go to Chuck E Cheese, he cant wait to get there and is really excited the whole day there also. You can set your watch to his 180 turn around in mood about 4 hours in, no game is fun, the food isnt good and he NEVER has enough tickets or the toy I get him to avoid putting the poor assistant behind the counter through his demeaning rants about how cheap everything is never good enough. At this point we leave and for the entire ride back to home, approx. 1 1/2 hours, is exhausting. I have found the best way to deal is to ignore, I am not just saying for me to deal but for his benefit also. If you engage and argue when he says how he never gets to have fun or that his life is terrible, it will just turn into an argument that never ends. I find it better to be calm and let him rant, the radio is a help on both ends, I drown him out and it ends up distracting him since he loves music...I have also found that I can not tell him about an activity until right before, if he knows we are going somewhere or company is coming he gets excited and sometimes the 4 hours happy is over before we begin. I have read everything possible but have decided that each child is an individual and something that works for one is never going to work for another. I try everyday to find a new way to help him control his mood swings, some days are great and some are not. The full moon is obvious even if I never see it,LOL...it has a definite pull on his mood also. I hope to hear from some other parents out there dealing with a similar child...I can never learn enough or take enough advice about parenting. :)
