A man has been charged following a disturbance in a hotel in Newcastle last night. About 10.30pm yesterday (Friday 22 August 2014), police were called to a hotel on Maryland Drive, Maryland, when a group of patrons became involved in a heated verbal argument. Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended the location and conducted inquiries. Initial inquiries indicated one of the men had allegedly obtained a large knife from the kitchen and waved it in the air during the argument. The man allegedly ran from the scene when police arrived and despite a thorough search of the area, with the assistance of the Dog Unit, he could not be located. About 6am today (Saturday 23 August 2014), the 38-year-old man was arrested at Waratah Police Station and charged with possess knife, wield knife in a public place and breach of bail. He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Newcastle Bail Court today.
