A man in a coffee shop was looking at me with great intent. As I took care of my transaction I would catch his eyes riveted on me. As he was about to leave the shop he engaged me. He asked about my t-shirt, so I opened my overshirt and showed him the March Against Monsanto message. He went on to tell me how his country, Argentina, is fighting now to kick the ruthless corporation out and the hardships that his farm is under due to their presence. We shared important feelings of concern and resolve to rid our world of such a deadly corporation. We said goodbye with solidarity for each others work and struggle. I thought I had seen the last of him until he popped out of his car in the parking lot and asked my friend to take a picture of us both, presumably to show people back home. As we put our arms around each other for the photo, naturally, like friends who hadnt seen each other in a while, maybe like brothers, I realized how important local action is along with a global awareness of the scope of a problem, that our efforts here or anywhere are important and helpful to people, to lives, to families across the globe, that we are all connected in forging a new, loving compassionate world out of a sacred earth experience put in dangerous jeopardy by an inhumane and suicidal corporatocracy...that fleeting moments of unexpected and palpable human connection might have effects that renew our resolve to continue a fight that is ultimately not for us, but for two people, someday, that have yet to meet each other for the first time from different places on the earth and share a story of joy and elation that the efforts of people that started long before me and a man from Argentina had been successful in sustaining a vision of a world free of gross exploitation of the earth and its inhabitants. Good luck and success to the peoples of Argentina. Deep gratitude to a man unafraid to engage another human being in a busy morning coffee shop. organicconsumers.org/monsanto/action.cfm
