A man is in custody this morning (Sunday 25 January 2015), following a police pursuit from Mooney Mooney to Hornsby. About 7.50am, Traffic & Highway Patrol officers were patrolling the M1 motorway as part of Operation Safe Return when they observed a white Toyota station wagon allegedly travelling at high speed towards Sydney. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle allegedly reached speeds of 175km/h on signposted 110km/h roads. Police successfully deployed road spikes when the vehicle left the M1 at Wahroonga and the vehicle was stopped on Pennant Hills Road. A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was taken to Hornsby Police Station. Investigations have established that the vehicle was stolen. The man is currently assisting police with inquiries.
