A message from President Dastmozd Well, finals are here. Many thanks to all of our hardworking students who are completing fall semester. Good luck with finals and don’t forget to register for spring 2015. This past week has been a busy week for all of us at the College. On Monday, I attended the Minnesota North Star Summit which addressed future workforce needs and the most promising steps the state can take to meet its demographic and labor force challenges. Then the executive director of Friends of Saint Paul College and I met with the Jeremiah Program to discuss the expansion of our partnership. In the afternoon I attended an East Metro Workforce Education and Continuing Education meeting with the presidents of Century College and Inver Hills Community College. Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning I attended the MnSCU all-presidents meetings. On Tuesday afternoon, I attended the kickoff meeting for MNAMP to discuss plans for the $15 million DOL grant awarded to the MnSCU college consortium, of which Saint Paul College was awarded $1,382,954 to further develop mechatronics, manufacturing, and welding programs. Later on, along with our academic deans and executive leadership team, I attended a presentation by St. Thomas University marketing students. On Wednesday, the VP of academic affairs and I attended an Academic Planning and Collaboration meeting with MCTC and Metropolitan State University. I also attended a District Energy board meeting. In the afternoon we held our all-campus meeting, highlighting the accomplishments of all areas of the College, and later met with our executive leadership team. I also attended a procurement/labor study meeting sponsored by the McKnight Foundation and research completed by University of Minnesota MBA students from the Carlson School. On Thursday, I discussed potential expansion of Phi Theta Kappa mentoring and C4 Pledge initiative with faculty and staff. At noon, our chief HR officer and had a very productive and positive meeting with our staff bargaining unit leadership team. It’s a wonderful and a rewarding experience when we all work together for the common goal of ensuring student success. In the afternoon, I attended an all-state student organization meeting with Chancellor Rosenstone. Later in the afternoon, the executive director of the foundation and I met with a potential donor to discuss the establishment of a student scholarship. On Friday, I attended a meeting of thought leaders at the Minneapolis Foundation to discuss details related to President Obama’s executive action on immigration. Later our business manager informed me that our team was presented with the Outstanding Service Award during the CFO conference - for a 2nd year in a row and our ninth time overall! Thanks to everyone in our business office for the great job you do - we have the best business office in the System! On a parting note, it is not uncommon that institutions of higher education produce college and university presidents – but five may be unheard of. My undergraduate alma mater, Southwest Minnesota State University has produced five presidents! Here’s a link to their online magazine: issuu/smsu/docs/smsufocus_fall2014_emag?e=1871470/10510393 My experience at Southwest Minnesota State University helped shape my character, values, purpose, and goals. I hope you will experience the same as you embark upon your educational journey at Saint Paul College. Have a great week! Best, Rassoul
