A message from my dad (David Penne): On October 5, 2014, my daughter and I had dinner at Broadneck Grill in Cape St. Claire. The bill was $28.56. I thought I paid with two twenty-dollar bills. So I was startled when my change was $1.44. I brought this to the attention of the waitress and manager. They insisted I had paid with a ten-dollar and a twenty-dollar bill. I then attempted to ask to leave my name and phone number. In that way, if the count was $10 over at closing, I could be notified. I was unable, however, to complete my request. Instead the manager interrupted, demanding that I leave the premises. I’m sure I looked stunned, to which the manger said, “Leave now or I’ll call the police.” He followed closely behind me as I walked towards the door where my daughter was waiting. I paused to put on my jacket before heading outdoors, which caused the manager to react, “Leave now or I’ll call the f***ing cops, and don’t ever come back!” He followed me outside. Inches from my face, he continued to yell and swear at me (at least two more “f***ing” this or thats and several times “bulls***”). My wish to give my contact information to the restaurant was not unreasonable. The manager swearing, yelling, making unnecessary threats, and kicking me out was unreasonable, belligerent, inappropriate behavior. A few days afterwards, I informed Donna Duran (Broadneck Grill’s owner) in writing of the incident. She has chosen not to respond.
