A metaphor that I think more road users (regardless of vehicle - TopicsExpress

A metaphor that I think more road users (regardless of vehicle type) need to ponder: Imagine yourself at a checkout counter. You have put your twenty items on the conveyor, and the cashier has started scanning them. Then a person arrives behind you, with one item to buy, and wants you to move out of the way since his transaction will obviously take less time. The rhetorical question, then, is, Who is being rude? When we are riding our bicycles on public streets, we are taking a turn at use of shared public space. If it is safe for us to have another road user pass because that road user wants to go faster, fine, we encourage safe passing. If its NOT safe to pass, we are right to discourage passing.
