A model for the youth! Young Xander (16 years old) served as Sacristan for several years. Despite having a very poor family, he strive so hard in his studies making him qualified for scholarships. He was considered by his fellow sacristans as the most gentle, dedicated, generous and humble among them all. When he freely decided to stay at the priests convent as a resident sacristan, he did everything to fulfill his tasks with much fidelity and joy, without having grudges or clamor. He does everything with love, perseverance and fidelity. He died last Friday morning which caused shock to many. Ringing the Church bell to remind the faithful about the Mass, about the presence of God is one of the major tasks of the sacristans. However, last Friday, he was not able to make it. He met an accident while climbing the belfry that caused him to die immediately. Just as when he was still alive, he died serving the Lord. He died fulfilling his simple task and mission: to ring the bell for us ---that people may know and be reminded that there is a God that we need. Now his life and his death will be the living bell that will sound and echo in our hearts and minds. God did not allow him to ring the Church bells and produce even a little sound. God wanted his life to be that STRONG BELL, that will awaken all of us to live life well...a life with much love, with much gratitude, with much peace, with much sincerity and trust. Thank you Xander for being a gift for all of us... Indeed, a life-well-lived no matter how short is a life that never ends. You will live forever Xander and we will see each other again!
