A new bill introduced in Congress that if passed prevents us from knowing what we have a moral and constitutional right to know. This bill is designed to make into law the present voluntary disclosure of whether a food is GMO. This law will make it illegal for states to have elections making it necessary for foods to be labeled GMO. After 26 States tried to bring it to a vote and 67 million dollars spent by the Ag business and biggies in the food industry, they now have it before congress to pass making it impossible for anyone to determine if their food is GMO or not. This post is not about the actual good or bad effects of GMO. That will eventually be settled by results, not arguments. This post is about the moral and constitutional freedom to know what our food is; whether it is what we want, or something we do not want in our bodies. Every American should be told by the producer if that food has been subjected to some process which we disapprove. But a Republican representative from Kansas is sponsor, our Tennessee Martha Blackburn, and a Carolina Democrat are co-sponsors of the bill. This is not about being conservative or liberal. This is about the freedom to know, or the dictated to no freedom to know. Enough people have doubts about GMO that the big majority want to know whether the food they eat is GMO, and they want the GMO food producers to say so. Some claim that polls establish that as high as 93% of Americans want to know if a food product is GMO before they buy it. That will make future elections interesting when the bill comes to a vote in Washington. Everyone who wants the freedom to know, and want their state to have the freedom to pass laws making it mandatory for all GMO foods to be labeled as such are facing a total loss of that freedom forever in the country of the free. We have lost too many freedoms already. Pick up you phone, call your representative, and voice strong opposition to this bill, or be ready to lose the freedom to know what we have a right to know. Just tell them plainly that you want the right to know how your food is grown and you want your state to have the right to demand that of all food sold in your state. Either we must speak kindly but very firmly and without equivocation or be prepared to eat in silence what we know not. For thirteen. Years under the voluntary act, not one company has stepped forth and branded their food GMO. Now if the bill is passed they will never have to do so.
