A note from our founder Lanie Rose... Thrust by fate into the role of race director, I assure you that date accommodations are made all of the time. Our organization never would consider it an option to schedule our annual spring Run for the Rose on Easter or during the days of Passover. We learned early that a race never was just about the amount of funds raised. The peripheral benefits are not as easily quantified but are extremely important for so many. Runs serve as incentives for patients to endure the often painful and debilitating treatments, the anxiety, the trauma, the indignities of the cancer. Many patients and their families have become isolated. Think of the emotional benefits of knowing that your family and friends are designing a T-shirt in your honor, gathering a team, journeying to be with you. Grieving families receive special support from others who understand. Their loved ones are remembered through their efforts to help the next patient. These benefits now will be lost for the year, an urgent amount of time to a cancer patient. Family and friends look for ways to help when someone is ill. A race is affordable as opposed to luncheons and galas that are out of reach to most people. Whole families can attend a race. In closing, please know that many of us who start small family foundations would never consider taking a penny in salary. Instead, we add our own personal, and often limited, funds just to allow one more patient to join a clinical trial or one more researcher to continue his work when his funding is stopped. An organization would be nothing without its supporters. Hundreds of volunteers are needed. Each of you is of inestimable value to our Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your kindness and generosity help so many.
