A number of people in the trans community are upset because a cis-man was once again cast to play the role of a trans women in the television show Trans Parent. Personally, I am not sure how I feel about it, because in many respects acting is about playing a role, and I am not sure it is necessary for trans roles to be played only by trans people. However, there are some who feel this kind of thing continues to perpetuate the stereotypes of trans women as men in dresses, which I most certainly empathize with. Many of these same folks are accusing Hollywood of trans face, a term I only recently acquainted myself of. However, I have some additional concerns of my own. For starters, listed here are 21 films with trans characters, all of whom are played by cis people. However, only 3 of these characters are trans men, thus once again confirming that trans men, and our narratives, are largely overlooked in mainstream media and Hollywood.
