A poem for your Monday. The Conceit of Knowledge by Ellen - TopicsExpress

A poem for your Monday. The Conceit of Knowledge by Ellen Hopkins Having mastered the mathematics of airfoils, jet engines, rocket fuel and stealth technology, we believe we are superior to birds. But when, barring B.B.s or plate glass windows, have you ever seen a sparrow tumble to the ground, a victim of mechanical failure? Having engineered great hulking spans and towers that grope the undercarriage of the sky, we believe we have conquered the laws of physics. But when we try to loft our kites, we fail to meet the challenge of wind and updraft, trees and power lines, paper and string. Having fabricated satellites and supercomputers, cellular networks and global tracking systems, we believe ourselves titans of communication. But when we converse with our children, they confound us with questions: Why do rainbows bend? Do clouds have helium inside? What happens when you die?
