A police officer attached to Mbarara Central Police Station has been arrested for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of 100,000 shillings and a bunch of matooke. Corporal Abel Musinguzi, a former Officer in Charge Boma police post in Kamukuzi division, Mbarara Municipality, was arrested by detectives from the Office of Inspectorate of Government (IGG) as he received the bunch of matooke from an elderly woman. The policeman had earlier arrested and charged the old woman with assault before releasing her on a forged police bond bearing a fake case file number upon paying a bribe of 100,000 shillings. He later reportedly demanded for a bunch of matooke and another 100,000 shillings for the Resident State Attorney in order to dismiss the case completely
