A precedent has been set and it promises to be very expensive. Administering state funerals is a costly exercise and affording this to soccer players may not be justifiable (A soccer player is as much an employee and a civil servant who cleans the streets). Ppl should work very hard, give some personal sacrifices to be awarded the hero status. Are we saying all Bafana players (past and present) are heroes that should be afforded a state / provincial funeral? If yes, Why was Thomas Madigage not afforded a state funeral?
