A programme of exciting and fun events is planned in towns across West Lothian to accompany the baton relay. Some 100 hand-picked baton-bearers in West Lothian will lead the baton relay through towns and a programme of events is planned in each town to mark the relay. Events will take place along the baton relay route, which will include Whitburn, Bathgate, Broxburn, Linlithgow and Armadale. The route will finish in Livingston and events are planned in each of the towns. Please note that events and timings may change over the coming weeks.Let?s hear you! Broxburn (approximately 8.45am - 11am) Albyn Park, home of Broxburn United Sports Club will see a large number of football and other sporting activities scheduled to take place in the morning. At present the intention is for the club to have football, boxing, zumba running with Xcite Sports coordinating taster session from the sports centre. (Approxiamtely 9am onwards) Events will involve a range of young people from the community who will welcome the baton as part of the route. The baton is scheduled to complete a lap the football stadium. The Main Street of Broxburn and Uphall will welcome the baton with a variety of activities including, street entertainers alongside entertainment provided by radio grapevine at key points throughout the route. The Churches will be open and have bells ringing with the South church having an outside service and offering coffee and bacon rolls. At the Skatepark we are looking to have some demonstrations and a balloon launch to support the local foodbank. Face painters, balloon shapes and stilt walkers will be around Goschen. In the run up to the baton relay Broxburn Library will have a special sports filled Bookbug session on the 10th and 11th of June at 10:30am. Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014 - bring on the batonLinlithgow (approximately 11am 1.15pm) The baton is scheduled to enter Linlithgow via the Canal with a short journey planned by LUCS (the local Canal Society). The baton will continue along the High street to the Peel at Linlithgow Palace where a range of activities are planned lasting three hours (live music, stalls, sports activities, archery, tug of war, cycling displays, water sports on the loch involving local community groups and clubs). The baton arrives at the Peel at approximately 11.56 and a large number of events are planned. Live music on the stage throughout, Low Port are providing archery and bike skills along with Clarion Bike Club, Linlithgow Rose and Rugby Club mini taster and demonstration. Stalls from local groups and youth services and mini stage for drama and period music Linlithgow Players. Palace Guides and Schools Big Dance plus food and ice cream van. 11.30 to 2.00. In the run up to the baton relay Linlithgow Library will have a special sports filled Bookbug session on the 12th June at 10:00am. There will also be unsupervised craft sessions all week where you can make your own Queens Baton. Armadale Activity will be focused on three main areas including, Armadale Community Sport Hub, Volunteer Park and Armadale Community Centre. During the lead-up to the baton proceedings the community centre will encourage all to part take in a world record attempt of the Superman Dance at Volunteer Park (target 1000+ community individuals). Armadale Community Centre is scheduled to hold a display of cultural celebrations, historical information alongside the opportunity for individuals to try activities such as bowling. Armadale Community Sport Hub will host a National Soccer 7s football tournament. All venues will showcase sports and community demonstrations alongside band performances. West Lothian Leisure (Armadale Xcite) is scheduled to open its doors offering an open-day to encourage community participation. Whitburn King George V (KGV) Park will hold various sports demonstrations and activities including Rugby Sevens, Tae Kwon Do, Football exercises, a freestyle dance class led by Xcite and others. This will be held between 2-4pm (approximately). There will also be performances from bands and choirs at various points along the Main Street between 3-4pm and West Lothian Leisure (Whitburn Xcite) will be providing activities throughout the day. There will also be activities in East Whitburn following the passing of the baton where this part of the baton relay will end. In the run up to the baton relay Whitburn Library will have a special sports filled Bookbug session on the 12th June at 10:15am. Bathgate Bathgate activity will be focussed around three areas including, Kirkton Park, The Steelyard and Bathgate Sports Centre. Friends of Kirkton Park will provide a free community celebration focusing on local culture and heritage with a key link to the previous visit to Kirkton Park of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1955. On the day, live music, dance, try a sport (bowling, tennis, potted sports) and childrens entertainment will be available for community members. Festivities in Kirkton Park will start at 12pm with activities at Bathgate Sports Centre taking place throughout the day. The Steelyard will provide demonstrations and the opportunity to try wheelchair basketball. Market stalls and live music alongside a variety of demonstrations from community groups will contribute towards a pre, during and post event atmosphere. This will be approximately between 2pm - 5pm. West Lothian Leisure (Xcite Bathgate) plans to deliver an open day alongside structured group exercise activities which provides the opportunity for local groups to get involved. Additional outdoor space provides community clubs with opportunities to get involved throughout the proceedings. Balbardie Primary School is scheduled to hold a netball and table tennis tournament which will witness one of the many baton bearer ?change-over? points. This will be approximately between 2pm - 5pm. Livingston The relay will finish in Livingston and the two main events are: a parade to precede the batons arrival and a celebration event held in Howden Park. To precede the batons arrival there will be a parade along the Boulevard. Groups represented will include local schools, sports clubs and gymnastic display teams. The parade will continue along the Boulevard, past the skate park, in front of the civic centre and into Howden Park. In the build-up to the parade, there will be street performances and events including gymnastic displays in the centre, a performance of The Pokey Hat from Grinagog Theatre Company and the chance to climb a mobile climbing wall or take part in an Army assault course. In Howden Park, a variety of community art and sport groups will display stalls alongside providing tasters and demonstrations which will include Judo, Football, Gymnastics, Cricket and Tae-Kwon-Do. Other activities will include young peoples cross-country event; mini commonwealth Games and demonstrations from West Lothian Xcite. A stage will be erected and managed by a commentator in Howden Park where various activities will take place throughout the day, including: Athlete interviews; performances from local choir groups and a professional band to round off the event.
