A quick Gracie update. Were doing proper recall training, under the auspices of Dave from Boney Fido in Sheffield. Gracies very good, even on the new 40 lead. And Ive started using a whistle, which she responded to immediately, so maybe she had this sort of training before. (Its a bright pink whistle, of course, to match her collars!) Were doing zig-zag walking, too, so she has to pay attention to me and not stare off into the distance. Shes very good at this now, except in the presence of seagulls - their squawking is too distracting! Yesterday the seagulls had given up in the face of a bunch of blokes with model planes. Gracie did quite well with them, too. Yesterday was an eye-opener. Shell run down the garden if I throw a ball for Tom, but if she gets the ball she normally runs indoors and takes it to bed. But yesterday I tried it with Tom shut indoors - and she brought the ball back, consistently! I now have a lurcher and a greyhound who do fetch! No video or photos of her training (lead in one hand, bag of rewards in the other), so here she is, not watching the telly.
