A rather bizzare, promised as State Funeral by the PM of Italy, now downgraded to Memorial Service for the Victims of Lampedusa will be held today. 1. The victims, have been buried already, their coffins scattered in various cemeteries, they will not be part of it in any form. 2. The survivors of the tragedy, have not been invited and no arrangements have been made to see them participants in this cerimony. One of them has lost a wife and a child 3. The families, close friends and overall concerned parties, are not present 4. Those that were involved in the rescue mission, and overall the precious inhabitants of Lampedusa are not part of it. 5. Important figures, not for the public position they hold but for the services, the dedication, the care, the generosity, the kindness they offered the survivors and endless family members during the last 18 days such as Giusy Nicolini, the Mayor of Lampedusa, are not present, they are outraged 6. The memorial service is held in Agrigento, a town that represents nothing to anyone involved in this tragedy I wonder, who is this Memorial service for? For the many politicians, diplomats and others alike, that have rushed to the Island for a photo opportunity and another media coverage? It is yet another sad and violent blow to the dignity and respect of the deceased, their families and those that are really and truly affected and touched by this tragedy.
