A reflection on todays Sacred Scripture: We live in a relatively remote area where there are no street lights, nor light from homes and businesses to compete with the lights of the heavens. Even the absence of manmade sounds accentuate the blackness of the sky and the brightness of the heavenly orbs. I can hardly step out of my car, after coming home late at night, that my lips dont begin praying, When I see the heavens, the work of your hands, the moon and the stars which you arranged, what is man that you should keep him in mind, mortal man that you care for him? (see Psalm 8). It certainly is wonderful to have these reminders--the stars of the night and all the wonders of creation--but we need to make the connection between them and God, and God and us; and we can only do that with Gods grace. Where is Gods grace? you might ask, and rightfully so. It is simply wherever God is, and certainly where He is, it is in superabundance: in His Word, in His Sacraments, in His Church, and in His holy people. So, you dont then need a remote location after all, a place where the stars of the night are not blotted out by artificial light, only a place where there is the Light that cannot be blotted out or overwhelmed. The heavens proclaim the glory of God. (Psalm 19:2) Wisdom 13:1-9 Psalm 19:2-3, 4-5ab Luke 17:26-37
