A short, thoughtful letter from Brittany Maynards mother. So many people have called Brittanys decision to end her life reprehensible -- and I think its fitting to share this today since my Uncle also wanted me to end his life early. And hes not the only one whos faced terminal cancer whos asked that of me. I have no problem with people saying they would not, in any circumstance, commit suicide, or support anyone else doing it. Im fine with that choice. But to deny the right to everyone, and condemn them for making a decision about their own body, seems like a good way to cause myself useless stress. Trying to control other peoples health decisions is not for me. Plus, all the scathing judgment against suicides in general has never been my cup of tea. Why project so much hate onto people? Living or dead? I see no point in the condemnation, other than causing myself pain. Standing in judgment of suicide just isnt for me. I cannot muster enough self-righteousness to damn this poor girl, or anyone else, for ending their lives. Peace to them all, and endless love to them all. And for all of the soldiers who commit suicide after war, theres a special place in my heart just for you. Always, always.
