A sign of the times! When I was a child the Navy boasted about it - TopicsExpress

A sign of the times! When I was a child the Navy boasted about it haveing around 600 active ships. 15 of them Aircraft Carriers. Now I think we barly have 300 active ships, and only 10 carriers. With the Ford under construction at Newport News Shipping, the Eisenhower sitting at N.N.S.Y.with this shutdown going on and the last conventional powered carrier the U.S.S. Kennedy (Decommissioned in 2007), sitting on donation hold at Naval activity Philadelphia (formally the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard)with I believe the rotting hulk of the once mighty USS America sitting beside her, and I almost forgot, the once mighty CVN 65, Starship ENTERPRISE being De fueled at Newport News shipbuilding is a sad sight to behold for a navy man to see! :-( Yes technology means we can do more with less in many cases, for example just look at that smartphone in your hand. But as a Once Proud American, something about the fact that 10 mighty carriers as opposed to 15 of them are active puts a bad tast in my mouth! And the America sitting beside the Kennedy, both rotting, sounds like the rotting from within of our nation moraly, financial, and mentally! If I was stupid, stinking wealthy, I would have the America, and the Kennedy moored in my backyard restored as floating monuments to our current, and past members of the military! And preserved in such a way that in a few short weeks should our once proud nation need there servic again they would be ready to FIGHT!!!!!!!
