A small fissure eruption has started in Holuhraun lava, in ice-free area, North of Dyngjujökull glacier in Vatnajökull glacier. The aviation color-code is red and restrictions on airspace have taken effect over the eruption site. No volcanic ash has been detected with the radar system. All Icelandic airports, international and domestic, are open. The eruption is not causing flight disruptions at this time. Highland closures on roads leading into the area remain in effect, as a safety measure. There are no signs of flooding. The eruption is in an uninhabited area, but there are hiking trails in the area. Anyone travelling in the area or planning travels in/close to the area is referred to Safetravel.is. Reykjavik Excursions operation is not affected by the situation at this stage. We are closely monitoring the situation and will advise of any schedule changes should they occur. ruv.is/volcano
