A technology rant. Ive purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.1. Of course it comes with upgraded browsers and some interesting new tools. And of course, every piece of software needs upgrading. I use You Tube often and now, only on Chrome, I keep getting demands to upgrade the video player. IE does not do that. I noticed that commenters frequently disparage IE. Fine, but on Chrome I get far more frequent popups. I can barely read the NY Times without interruption. I run anti-malware scans every day. These are not infections. I doubt Ive recently spent 20 minutes consecutively working where Im involved with the net. The distractions just never stop and Google chrome adds to it. Im downloading Firefox tomorrow. Is Netscape still around? The computer was supposed to be a tool to get work done.
