A teenager has been charged following a police pursuit of a motorbike through Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Police from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command had been alerted to a number of dirt bikes being ridden around Matraville about 9pm (Monday 23 June 2014). About 9.30pm, police patrolling Clarence Avenue at Matraville were informed four bikes were allegedly being ridden dangerously through the streets. The riders were sighted and a pursuit initiated along several Matraville streets before the pursuit was terminated. A short time later one of the bikes was found outside a home in Partanna Avenue and an 18-year-old man was arrested with the assistance of the dog unit. He was taken to Maroubra Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously (Skye’s Law), and being a disqualified driver. The man was bailed to appear in Waverley Local Court on Wednesday 23 July 2014. Inquiries are continuing into the identities of the other riders. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/.
