A testament to the power of friendship: when I was thirteen and - TopicsExpress

A testament to the power of friendship: when I was thirteen and lived on a farm--where I felt lonely a good deal of the time--I wrote to an organization to ask for a pen pal. Later, I received a letter telling me to write to a girl in Japan. We began a correspondence that has lasted a lifetime. After my mother died in 1989, I went to Japan to visit Ikuko Nawa and her wonderful family. When George and I got married, she came to Texas for the wedding. Today, I learned that she bought the $100 copy of Her Texas, which will be signed by the editors and six of the authors. Thank you, Ikuko, for your faith and your friendship for the past 49 years--so very, very hard to believe were still in touch.
