A thought came to mind in light of this Crimea referendum and the big hoopla about the so called democracy that the US and The European Union is trying to sell. I would like to extend a small message to those defenders of democracy : first and foremost democracy isnt something you pull out the time you find it convenient like in kossovo and Serbia and south Soudan or Libya or Iraq or Afghanistan and put it on the back burner whenever suitable! Historically Crimea has been part of Russia since the time of the tsars dating way back to the 18th century and the population holds the same religion, same culture, same language and has many generations benefiting from Russia! If the west really is eager to promote such so called democracy then why not start with areas where actually there is more cultural and religious differences that run deeper than in Crimea? How about Cyprus where turks have been invading half of the island and kurdistan as well! How about the UK occupying northern Ireland, Gibraltar or falkan islands or perhaps returning corsica to Italy or how about giving the basques their independence since they have been asking for it? How about then stripping groenland from danemark? Or perhaps giving Quebec its independence? (not that I am condoning or condemning any of these movements ). Perhaps the western world could help promote the so called democracy In these areas and own backyard since they are so keen on promoting it? Why arent they doing so you say? Ah yes someone is trying to control the world under the false excuse of democracy!
