A tradie working at the university campus in Rockhampton noticed this baby Squirrel Glider – now lovingly known as Tobie – on the ground being attacked by birds. He picked him up and moved him to the shelter of a small bush nearby, but the birds were relentless so he delivered him safely to Torenbeek Vet Surgery. The vet called us and we went straight out to pick him up. It was a very hot day and Tobie was dehydrated and looking a little bit sorry for himself with a few well aimed pecks making their mark on his ear and face, but he was otherwise healthy. We gave him fluids and a warm meal – a mixture of possum milk, insectivore mix, high protein mix and nectivore mix – which he scoffed down and he hasnt stopped scoffing since! As he settles in hell start eating all kinds of fruits and veggies, insects, native flowers and the sap from eucalyptus and wattle trees. Eventually hell go into a big aviary so he can learn the fine art of gliding. Tobie weighs a grand total of 62g now and will grow up to be no more than 300g when hes released with a group of Squirrel Gliders his age.
