A tribute to my father, James Wesley Settles, born on November - TopicsExpress

A tribute to my father, James Wesley Settles, born on November 12th, 1919 (one day after VETERANS DAY) and passed away on June 10th, 1991 at the age of 71. Dad worked in the coal mines in Harlan, Ky. from the age of 16 to the age of 19 before enlisting in the United States Army. Dad was a Staff Sergeant and was such an excellent shot that his superior officers asked if he would relocate to Camp Roberts in California and teach marksmanship to the soldiers.......Of course, Dad agreed. Dad served in The Aleutian Islands, The Phillipines, Greenland and Iceland and was on a ship headed for Pearl Harbor the day it was bombed. They were given orders, in midstream, to turn around and go back. From my ancestral ties to The Langleys (Samuel Pierpont Langley.....Langley CIA) to The Carmacks (William Carmack and others) and to The Humfleets who followed in Daniel Boones footsteps across the great Cumberland Gap to President George Washington, Patrick Henry, Henry Livingston, Nathan Hale and Mary Todd Lincoln I dare anyone to even remotely suggest that I do not have PATRIOTIC BLOOD coursing through my veins! November 11th-12th has always been and will always remain a, particularly, precious and very special day to me! GOD BLESS ALL OF AMERICAS HEROIC VETS! GOD BLESS AMERICA!
