A trio of ecologists from Deakin University and the Univerity of Sydney (Dale Nimmo, Euan Ritchie and Thomas Newsome) have written an excellent article about the demise – and possible recovery – of native fauna in Australia. Sadly we can never fully recover the natural splendour we have cast aside. But they remind us just how plentiful native animals once were, and make the case that there are plenty of opportunities to save what remains – bringing many of our wildlife species back to abundance and rewilding Australia.
