A year ago Kristian Gidlund, a swedish journalist and musician who I (Matte) had gotten to know through work, died from cancer at the age of 29. He was a nice guy and whenever we met up, mostly in weird places like Palestine or the US, we would have a beer or two and talk about music, politics and and stuff like that. As he got sick from terminal cancer he started a blog about dying and the blog eventually became a book. Both the blog and the book received wide attention in the media and he was invited to talk about his illness and his views on life and death on several swedish talk shows pretty much up to his death. He inspired and empowered a lot of people and it was a damn shame he had to go so soon. Anyway. We talked alot online the last few months before he died and after one evening of chatting with him I wrote this song. When I told him that he had inspired me to write a positive crust punk song that was not about war, fascism, oppression or animal rights he laughed and said he really wanted to hear it. Unfortunately he died before the track (“Ripping Through The Darkness”) was recorded so he never got to hear the end result, but this is us playing it at 090 Hardcore Fest last Saturday. Life is short, make the best of it! https://youtube/watch?v=0-r1vxRID2A
