A very excellent article by an unusually self-aware dude! In addition to his arguments, though, its worth pointing out that this tactic of slapping the crazy or irrational label on those whom we wish to disempower is not only a gender dynamic, and this is one of the many reasons why an understanding of the intersectionality among various kinds or modes of oppression is so important. Because the same tactic is also used to dismiss and erase the feelings of racialized groups, the poor, and the Dis/abled as well as those of women, the latter two cases Ive observed in action first hand. So we need to understand it as a power tactic, recognize when we are in positions of power and are using it to maintain our power, and unlearn the habit as a first step, and it is only a first step, toward learning to relate to people in new and more equal ways.
