A very long time ago when I was just a young lad, our family - TopicsExpress

A very long time ago when I was just a young lad, our family adopted Donny. Donny has been living at the pines the past 30 years and has lived with a cognitive disability for all his 61 years of life. He is mostly deaf and cant speak. Hes been with our family for a very long time, coming to Christmas, birthdays, graduations, etc. Just a few years ago my mom became the power of attorney for him, which means he really is an adopted part of our family now. Needless to say, I grew up with Donny as a part of our family. And thankfully I grew such a great appreciation for enjoying his company. He loves hanging out with us. My mom taught me at a very young age to always help those who are less fortunate than I am. So, for me, the Miracle League Field is personal. While Donny will never play there, I know there will be many Donnys out there who will get the same excitement by stepping on that field as the same excitement Donny gets when he sees his family. Last night, Laura Ziemer was kind enough to allow Donny to throw out the first pitch at the last summer game of the season. He was ecstatic. It made his day and Laura gave him the ball to take home, which I’m sure he’ll keep forever. This is a huge reason why I wholeheartedly support the Miracle League, the volunteers who made it a reality, and all those who enjoy their time there. Please consider going to a game in the future. Your heart will be warmed by the sound of the laughter and cheers, but most importantly, the sight of all the smiles on the faces of the kids. Just another reason to love Manitowoc. So many people willing to make it a better community for ALL our citizens. Thanks to all who made this dream a reality.
