A very unsettling police photograph from the scene of Grace Kellys fatal accident in Monaco, 13 September 1982. After suffering a stroke at the wheel, she careered off the Serpentine road and cascaded down a mountainside. She was pulled from the wreck alive but unconscious and succumbed to her injuries the following day at the age of 52. Despite the very macabre nature of the photograph, the lack of structural deformation to the cabin is remarkable for a car that was over 20 years old as a design, and testament to the innovative engineering which put safety at the core of the design. The front crumble zones have done their job and the engine very clearly hasnt penetrated the bulkhead. There is very little deformation to the A-pillar and roof as well. It is probably only for the fact that the car landed upside down that made this an outright fatal accident, as the structure itself looks to have fared well. - Originally unearthed and posted by Rüdiger Wicke
