A week end read: DPT and Sub Standard Quality: Dont they care? Our country has limited resources and very limited budget for any development activities. Most of the budget we have are given as aid by the Indian government as a good will gesture that the Indians have for us, and of course it is all due to the Hard WORK AND Trust that was built upon by Our Beloved Kings over decades. I will not write anything about Bhutan India Friendship but this, that the trust that the Indians had in us has been questioned by Jigmi Thinley’s idea of China. The Tenth five year plan which of course was a gift from our Beloved Monarchs had a budget of 148 billion which was an enormous amount as compared to any of our previous Tenth Five Year plans. And what does the DPT government do with it? heres the list for you all to contemplate about. 1. Quality of Roads in Thimphu, Our Highways and especially the feeder roads to our villages, can see for yourselves. 2. Domestic airport quality. Yongphula airport can only be used after huge maintenance, repairs and when the flaws aare corrected, that will be in 2014 now. After the amount of budget that was spent on it in all the news papers. 3. Domestic airport both in Bumthang and Gelephu, well i am sure you all read about it in the papers. SUB STANDARD quality, risking the lives of the passengers as well as putting our planes at risk: news papers. 4. Schools as shown yesterday on BBS, was damaged by earthquake in 2011. Till date the classes for the students are being held in tents. DPT was more interested in the education city rather than our schools in the remote areas. What if that 200 million being spent on the road to education city was used to repair such schools, wont our students be studying in class rooms rather than outside? 5. Irrigation channels in Trashigang, bbs news 6. land slides affecting village houses as well as fields due to the construction of roads in some areas: BBS news 7. lack of proper water management leading to shortage of water supply to urban areas, News paper? 8. Education standard of our public schools suffering. 9. Good DPT with the Tenth Five year plan provided electricity to most BUT the tariff from Nu 1 is going to Nu 4: good luck paying your electricity bills now. Its not just about providing things for us the people, it is about quality. With the limited resources we have, whatever is being built or made, it has to be the best of quality so that it last and resources can be diverted to other important areas and not just on maintaing such every few months.
