A week or so ago, a little baby red-bird landed on the front porch - TopicsExpress

A week or so ago, a little baby red-bird landed on the front porch column. It was just fresh from its nest. Mama had nudged the baby. Time for it to fly. It found shelter from the summer night storms under the front porch. Tiny beek pressed into the corner, scared, little bird....dark world at night without Mama, newborn, uncertain. Looked like it was sitting in time out, and trying to sleep. I noticed baby bird, ruffled feathers brown. Most likely will be a beautiful cardinal. Hundreds in the neighborhood. But this one was different. It wasnt with the others. It was huddled and lonely. Wouldnt move. Scared little thing. On the third night baby red-bird was perched; another summer storm was brewing. I awoke about three a.m. I couldnt sleep so I walked out, onto the porch. I saw lightning in the distance. As I stood there the wind began blowing. I began to sing. His Eye is on the Sparrow. The rain began to pour. Wind, rain, lighting in the distance. Suddenly I looked to my right and there was baby-bird with its head no longer fearfully pressed into the woodwork of the porch corner. Just looking....with its eyes wide open. I paused mid-song and realized the song and the significance of baby-bird. I sang a lullaby to a baby red bird; and I am still uncertain whom was most blessed by the whole experience. I know we both were. Baby has grown in the past few days....saw the timid little thing today on a dogwood limb. I sang a chorus and baby-bird flew away....but not before giving me the closest thing a bird can give to a smile.....~ mte
