A year ago I was ready to quit writing. I was frustrated with my posts and readers were as well. I was driving to the store to get dinner when I checked Facebook. I had three messages. One was asking me to share their page and one was telling me how much I sucked. There there was this third message I got... It was from a woman named Karen Suffern. She wrote me a letter asking if I would share a video her friend made. it was about her twins. He son Ryan wrote a letter telling Santa not to give him gifts as long as his sister Amber had a good Christmas and stopped getting bullied at school. I remember reading the letter and seeing the video. I remember thinking the video did not do the story justice. So I did something I have never done. I asked Karen if she would allow me to write a story about her kids. I told her I was moved by her kids and really wanted to get the story out. I remember making the claim that i could help get her story viral. I sat by the computer and was lost on how to write it. I looked at other articles and tried to make my article like that. I looked up some bullying statistics and used quotes. Looking back it was pretty choppy, but I knew I could help. I submitted it to CNN. They called me the next day and interviewed Karen. CNN wrote about it and then it went viral. it was in every newspaper around the country, Upworthy and other outlets. Good Morning America and Today were fighting to have her family on. After everything I remember Karen writing to me that she was sorry that Good Morning America cut my name out when she tried to thank me. I told her that was okay. She gave me much more. She gave me the desire to write again. And I have done a lot in the last year. Thank you Karen for giving me the opportunity to write about your family. nydailynews/life-style/health/dear-santa-n-boy-8-writes-letter-asks-bullied-sister-article-1.1458530
