Yahoo India – Thu 6 Mar, 2014 MUMBAI: The Aam Aadmi Party seems to be embracing a controversy virtually every day with a report from Mumbai now revealing that a woman constables trousers were allegedly torn by the party workers, Mid-Day reports. The report says that a few hundred AAP volunteers had assembled outside the MHADA office in Kalanagar, Bandra, on Wednesday to protest against the condition of transit camps in the state under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority. As the cops present at the spot tried to restrain the protesting AAP workers, a scuffle broke out during which a 42-year-old lady constable, Chikne (who did not give her first name) was allegedly meted out with the mortifying treatment. Chikne, stationed at Amboli police station, was quoted by Mid-Day as saying, Some people opposed me when we were trying to stop them during the protest and in the scuffle I realised that my pant had been torn. Another police constable, present on the spot, said Chikne had to be taken to a separate place after the incident. We immediately escorted her out of the place. We took her to a safe spot in the MHADA building, after which she changed into a salwar kameez, said the police constable. Meanwhile, the AAP has shrugged off the report claiming it was the police that had assaulted them. Anjali Damania, the state leader of the AAP, was quoted by Mid-Day as saying, Its disgusting to say that AAP party workers assaulted any policewoman. Another AAP leader Mayank Gandhi, while brushing aside the charge levied by the woman constable, said the party will launch a FIR against the cops who assaulted their volunteers. The Mumbai police said it will ascertain what exactly happened at the time. Ashok Kadam, senior police inspector of Kherwadi police station, said, Two women constables and a male constable were attacked. My priority is to get the problem resolved first, then we will see what happened to our people. DCP Namdev Chavan said, There were policemen standing outside the office to stop the public from entering the MHADA office. If something happened at this time, it was not on purpose.
