ABC academy – Latvian school in Tullow ..One of the human features is (we don’t know – good or not so good ) before New Year to remember what was done in the previous year , how good were results. And we are going to tell about what was done in our school during 2014. Thanks to support of the Leinster Latvian Community (LELAB) and students parents ideas, Latvian Children and teenagers weekend school „ABC Academy” was founded . It is not a year yet when school started - school was opened on 23rd march 2014. There was high enthusiasm, promises and hopes - what is going to be, what we are going to do. First staff of school was leaded by Inta Dreimane - Riekstiņa. Three Sundays monthly children came to school from nearer and further places around Tullow to get possibility to study, act, learn in Latvian. Easter, Mothers day, Latvian Culture day in Dublin; these activities let children and their parents feel the Latvian background being far from native country. School has its logo, children have nice school caps, t-shirts with school logo . In September a new period of work started . On 21st September new school year started – Ingrida Tarauda was elected headmaster and Inese Jankevica and Liga Valge as teachers. Two of them have higher pedagogical education and one is studying. Now we have 27 children in our school. They are divided in groups : A (1.5 – 3 year old), B (4- 6 year old), C (7-12 year old), D group - youth club „Nut” as part of Latvian club „ House”. With A group is working voluntier Laura Peksheeva and one of the parents assist, with B group – Inese Jankevica , with C- Liga Valge , with D – Ingrida Tarauda. All is going on, we are happy and satisfied about the things we are doing together. We have found our traditions have realised new ideas – every Sunday school morning we meet in the hall for 15 minutes – simply to be all at the same place and some time – to celebrate Teachers day, to congratulate those who have birthdays, to get ready for working day, to say something good to each other. On the 9th November we had Hour of Poetry, on 16th November we celebrate the Day of Independence of the Republic of Latvia. At the end of each school day we meet together again to show each other what we maize during the day . We took part in Latvian festival in Limerick with programme of poetry „My and Your Latvia”. Cody Rodrigo Redmond (B Group), Samanta Luka (C group) and Keity Stegmane (youth club „Nut”) represented our Tullow School . Very colour full and bright was Pumpkin Day on 23rd November with beautiful fancy dresses and Latvian traditions. Our first Christmas party was emotional, with love and good wishes. Children were surprised when they receive certificates with valuation of their knowledge and work. Children took part in all competitions that youth club „Nut” carried out. Samanta Luka took 2nd prise in competition of poems „My Christmas dream” and 1st prise in painting competition „I am drawing Latvia” but Liva Pomerance took 2nd prize. We start to build a friendship bridge between Boston (USA) Latvian Sunday School . First children will exchange a handwritten letters, after we planning „Skype- conference”. This will be good experience to practice Latvian language in writing. We are school with Latvian language, but we cant be separated from contest of Europe – our school is modern and we are respecting other national culture, we are respecting country where we are living now and its culture. To get more know about other Europe countries culture and traditions, we taking part to partricipate, run and providing eTwinning projects. Our youth club also join Erasmus+ , we are working together on different projects with Turkey, Spain, Italy, Greece . School provide parents with monthly school newspaper. We would like to say special thanks to Tullow Parish centre t- Fr.Andy, and secretary Catriona for all support during the year. Thanks that we can be here!
