ABC40 to Take to the Sky with 439th Airlift Wing CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — The C-5′s at Westover have been a fixture in western Massachusetts for decades. Today, we’ll get a first-hand, inside look at some of the training the unit undertakes. Thursday, ABC40 will head to the skies over northern New England as members of the 337th Airlift Squadron, also known as the “Patriot Wing”, head out on a training mission. The 337th Airlift Squadron is the only flying unit within the 439th Airlift Wing. As part of the training, the C-5 will meet up with a KC-135 – which are assigned to facilities in New Hampshire and Maine – for mid-air refueling. Master Sgt. Andrew Biscoe with Westover Public Affairs says that refueling training is critical for pilots because the C-5 has a global range and can carry almost any piece of equipment to anywhere around the world. ABC40′s Brendan Monahan will have more on today’s mission and flight, beginning on ABC40 News at 5, with a complete report tonight on ABC40 News First on FOX at 10, and ABC40 News Eleven@11.
