ABIDEEN OLATUNJI LIVE IN IKORODU ON SUNDAY It was the warming ceremony of the multi-million Naira edifice located at Ori-Okuta in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area of Lagos State. The sprawling edifice - Promise Femson - is a hotel owned by Femi Anifowoshe. Abideen Ajasa Olatunji was at his best rendering different Sakara numbers. He must have been impressed by the ecstatic response of his patrons, who sprayed him endlessly with crimpsy Naira notes. He threw the goje down, got on his feet and danced to his own music, to the admiration of all. It was a unique performance where the Sakara musician enjoyed himself played. At some point, he put one leg across the arm rest of the chair he sat on and threw himself on the back rest of the chair in a relaxed position. I heard him sang: Ti n ba se bayi/ ara me i da Ti n tun se bayi/ ara me i da.... I must confess that I learnt many new Sakara lines from Baba Legba Junior yesterday. One thing is certain, Sakara is fast becoming popular among young elites. This much was confirmed by a lady who sat beside me. She confessed that when she first saw them sat, she wondered what sorts of musicians would sit down to play. She was sure that it was going to be a boring day. It was, however, a pleasant surprise for her; something out of this world, she said. Abideen will be playing at the burial of the matriach of the family (the wife of the late Sakara Maestro). By the time Jimi Agbaje scales the first hurdle at the Governoship Primaries of the Lagos PDP on Nov. 29, Baba Legba Junior will be at the Oriwu Club to celebrate with us insha Allah. At this juncture, I must put my gratitude on record. Before my arrival at the party, Sheriff Muhammed told me that Abideen had mentioned our names severally. We are the only organized Yusufu Olatunji Fans Group that he knows. When he saw me entered, he stood from his seat to embrace me; even while he played. Thenceforth, he kept acknowleging my presence, such that I feared the celebrant could be green with envy. He saw me gave my son some money to spray him, but beckoned on him to sit down.
