ABLUTION IN THE HOLY BIBLE???? Most times, I have thought widely whether there was a connection between the two major religions in the world; Christianity and Islam, without any intension of knowing which one is right or wrong… But to find out whether there was/is any point of synchrony btn the two religions…… A thorough and a critical reading of the Holy Bible shows a very fundamental practice of Islam; That is washing of the hands and feet before prayers, or for traditions sake…. Many Christians would not believe this… Others would misquote the Scriptures to support their argument… And my brothers and sisters, in the Islam fraternity would equally take this out of context …. I must say that, Im neither trying to favor any religion, nor am i trying to prove anything… I am just trying to point out a fact in what we (Christians) believe in (the bible), and then ask questions…. I stand to be disputed or corrected, anyway (just searching for ansas)… Like I stated earlier, a fundamental Islamic practice exists in the Holy Bible, and that is the ‘’Washing of the hands and feet’’ coded ‘’ABLUTION (washing of parts or all of the body)’’ in the English translation… We can find this in Exodus 40: 30 – 32 ‘‘30 And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withal. 31 And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat: 32: When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Moses. The above quotation shows how Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and feet before they went into the tent of congregation (altar) to pray. As a matter of fact it was in strict compliance to the Laws that God gave them in Ex:30:19 – 21 19For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat: 20: When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD: 21: So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations. Brethen, what does the above quotation means to the objective mind…. God gave a commandment that they washed their hands and feet before going into the temple, or offer offerings. There are however many instances where the Jews washed their feet, not for the purpose of worship but perhaps as a matter of tradition…. These can be seen in Genesis 18: 4; 19: 2; 24: 32; 43: 24 Im very aware that some extreme Christians would say when Jesus died on the cross, his blood washed us.. So there would be no need to wash our selves before we go into the Lord’s temple…. But folks, the verse 21 of Exodus 30 makes us understand that it SHALL BE A STATUTE FROM GENERATION UNTO GENERATION… Lets even assume that the death of Jesus has nullified the aspect of ritualistic washing of oneself, but spiritual purification of the same self… The fact still remains in that even during Jesus time people still washed their hands and feet before prayer…. According to the Jewish encyclopaedia ‘’ FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACTUAL OR RITUAL PURIFICATION, ABLUTIONS OR WASHINGS FORM AN IMPORTANT FEATURE OF THE JEWISH RELIGION…. Mind u, Moses, Aaron, and and even Jesus were Jews, and Judaism (a religion of the Jews) is far different from Christianity Is it not surprising that Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples at the last supper in John 13… Mary Magdalene washes the feet of Jesus in Luke 7: 38 Again the concept of Ablution was expressly statedn Acts 21:26: ‘’Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.’’… See Exodus 30: 20 for confirmation… The question I want to ask now is; whats up with all this washing or purification in the old and new testament? If the Jews through whom we came to know Christianity practiced Ablution then what has happened to the faith? We must also remember that the Jews who mostly practiced Ablution are not MOSTLY Christians, they practice Judaism (A primitive religion of the Jews)…. Then, the question again is; HAS CHRISTIANITY LEFT SOMETHING PARAMOUNT OUT OF THE FAITH??? Interestingly in the New Testament, where Christianity started from, washing of the hands and feet occurs in reference to the rites of JUDASIM… Did Jesus practice the rite of purification (Ablution) of the Jews as was commanded by God, to be practiced from generation to generation? Then what has become of us? Having said this, I must state that Christianity fundamentally acknowledges two forms of ablution as far as I know; BAPTISM AND WASHING OF THE FEET (to commemorate Christ’s washing of the feet at the last supper)…. Are we going to practice Ablution occasionally, or continually as commanded by God? Brethren, I don’t know what you are thinking after reading this boring article of mine… Perhaps you think this guy is crazy.. But if you are one analytical person, you would understand what im trying to put across…. I don’t know what the truth is… All I know is that we have neglected or are neglecting a very relevant aspect of the worship of our true God… We have modernized everything, including the worship of God, such that very imperative issues are left out in our scriptures, or are thought to be primitive… I don’t think the scripture has errors… IT IS JUST NOT BEEN USED RIGHTLY… Like a farmer trying to paint with a cutlass…. God help me and you find the TRUTH….. Another issue worth noting is the entering of the alter with sandals… Ex:3:5 ‘’And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place where on thou standest is holy ground.’’…. THIS WOULD BE A DIFFERENT TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION….. Why have Christians neglected this….Do you now believe that an aspect of ISLAM IS IN THE HOLY BIBLE??? GUD EVENING!!!
