ABRAHAM By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, Even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned” Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. HEBRWS – 11: 17, 18, 19. Abraham, in virtue of the close relationship he had with God; knew that the God is trustworthy to be followed and Abraham choose to follow him after forsaking all the relations and materials however important they were to him. Also he knew that God is worthy to be offered with the sacrifices whichever had occupied the most important role in his life, it means, Abraham did not keep anything above God, and he did not have any second thoughts or did not opt for any second opinions when God told him to do something. Since from the very first day of his call from God in Genesis 12, till he was blessed with Isaac in Genesis 21 Abraham in various encounters with God he experienced the supernatural power of God by receiving blessings, solutions, protections etc... in various situations and as a crown to all those at the age of 100 he was blessed with Isaac. He well knew about the physical ability of Sarah and of his own and the birth of Isaac is another mile stone of his faith. Also during this era he could understand about the various characters of God as a Guide, Counselor, Provider, Miracle worker, Holy God etc… Above all he understood about one of God’s special character that He is SACRIFICIAL and that He sacrifices the best things for the sake of mankind. God taught Abraham step by step that how he can be sacrificial too Abraham was to sacrifice his father and father’s house hold in order to obey and please God – GENESIS 12: 1 - 5 Abraham was to sacrifice Lot his only relative left out in order to obey and please God – GENESIS 13: 1 - 12 Abraham was to sacrifice the wealth which he was to receive from the king of Sodom – GENESIS 14: 21 - 23 Abraham was to sacrifice Hagar who borne his son in order to obey and please God – GENESIS 21: 8 - 14 Abraham was to sacrifice Ishmael his only son in order to obey and please God – GENESIS 21: 8 - 14
