ACEN SCHOOL OF CONSULTING ENGINEERING ACEN SCHOOL OF CONSULTING ENGINEERING IS CURRENTLY HOLDING A 3-DAY TECHNICAL TRAINING ON INTRODUCTION TO THE DESIGN OF SHORT SPAN BRIDGES The link between the rural and urban areas of the country can be achieved by the design and construction of roads and link bridges of varying lengths and span. The proposed course is aimed at giving as many interested civil/structural engineers the basic knowledge required to design a simple bridge, which can subsequently be built on. OBJECTIVES The course is both for the novice and the experienced and is prepared specifically: * To acquaint participants with the basic knowledge of the different elements of a bridge structure and their functions. * To understand the use of the code of practice used in the design. * To analyse and design the different structural elements. COURSE CONTENTS ü Introduction to bridge design ü Bridge Loading Using BS 5400 /BD 37/01 ü Decking Loading ü Use of Software in the design of bridges ü Sub- Structure Design (Piers and Abutments) ü Foundations, Types and Design WHO SHOULD ATTEND Buyers of construction; owners, developers, project managers, officials of government ministries, directors of engineering and infrastructure, design engineers, consultants and contractors.
