ACM and ACM-W (along with other organizations) are working with the Mika Loya Center to organize an event called the Grand Challenge Workshop. It is a 24 hour event in which participants form teams and come up with a public policy targeting a particular problem: This years challenge is to design public/private policies that will radically increase the number of women who major in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the U.S. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with others and create something that can really make a difference. It is also a tremendous professional opportunity! There is a panel of judges who evaluate the work of each team, and it includes some high profile people from UTEP and elsewhere: Dr. Schoephoerster (College of Engineering), Dr. Ming-Ying Leung (College of Science), Dr. Stella Quinones (College of Engineering), and Mr. Richard Martinez (White Sands). If you are interesting in participating, please fill out the attached form and email it to me ([email protected]). If you have questions or comments, please send them my way! Take advantage of this! It is going to be terrific!
