ADAMAWA POLITICS: The Good The Bad and The Ugly Sides! when there is a palpable distrust amongst Peoples of same background, survival and existence, their political lives and survival is bound to be simplified and underlined in same direction. Adamawa unlike its other Sister States of the NORTH EAST Axle hs never witnessed a clean and clear People and masses oriented elections right from its independence from North Eastern State. By 1979 the distrust started to manisfest itself when Abubakar Barde of blessed memory won the governorship election under the banner of the proscriped GNPP, being a Mumuye of extraction, no one had believed that a man of such, with a not known political background and probably from such a tribal background could possibly won an election of such magnatitude! So, the other big ethnic group decided to bring in the late Ahmadu Muhammad Ribadu of blessed memory to contest under te banner of the then NPN, while another vibrant politician of a Chamba extraction, Philip Gang maken of a blessed memory too, came up to slug it out under the banner of the UPN then, these contestants were the only strongest at that time politically, how ever, by the time the elections were over, and the political dusts settled, BARDE won with a some unsumountable gap and victory, so RIBADU and PHILIP lost, this particular political episoed was a turning point in political situation of the State and the various ethnic group. the Fulanis could not believe the sagacity of their political lost, not withstanding the facts that some prominent Fulani men and women refused to play along tribal or ethnic lines by ganging up to partner with the Mumuye man, where by the end of the 1979 general elections, Late Mahmud Waziri was elected into the Senate to represent Gongola Central, while Professor Iya Abubakar represented Mubi senatorial, both of them Fulanis also under the same party. This was not accepted kindly and easily by the other Fulanis hence Ribadu was compensated with an ambassodorial appointment to Republic of Niger, this shows that there were trust, understanding, peacefull co existence and harmony within the Peoples, still by 1982, the Fulanis rallied round to fight back, this time to use all financial resouces at their disposal to achieve their lost ambitons of controlling the state. They had to bring in BM Tukur who was overwhelmingly supported and accepted by all sundry, irrespective of tribe or religion, fortunately or unfortnately his regime did not last, but by 1999, Boni Haruna became a governor and all enjoyed his 8 years, by 2007, we got Murtala H Nyako became a governor by crook or hook, he was imposed, yet the people thought thatfor the sake of peaceful co existence, let Nyako come in, being a Fulani man, he should be allowed, but during Nyakos 7and a half years, our politics, peoples, existence, lives and happiness were distorted and hanged on the balance, things were turned to tribal, religious, arnarchy and pitance, now will it be possible for ADAMAWA STATE and its people trustone another?
